Secretary bird | Raptor of a Different Feather

When game viewing on the open grasslands, be on the lookout for this fascinating large bird of prey! Secretary birds are superior hunters, stomping through the vegetation, flushing out tasty morsels as they go. Prey such as insects, snakes (adders and cobras are favourites), small birds and small mammals (which can range in size from mice to hares and mongoose) need to beware! Rarely taking to the skies, this amazing bird can be mistaken for a crane when seen in flight. They generally spend their days on the ground and nights roosting atop acacia trees. Being part of the order of falcons, vultures and kites, the Secretary bird is definitely a bird of a different feather and makes for a marvellous sighting.
