07 May Lanner Falcon and Chicks Nesting at Nambiti
At Nambiti, the diverse landscape means the sky is alive with a wide range of birds. Steven Freese managed to capture this wonderful footage of a pair of Lanner Falcons and their chicks nesting on the cliffs in the centre of the reserve.
As any visitor to Nambiti knows, the diversity of the landscape means the sky is alive with a wide range of bird species. Being spoilt for choice, we are equally privileged to regularly observe the behaviour of specific birds on Nambiti on an ongoing basis. In particular, we have been lucky enough to watch a pair of returning Lanner Falcons nesting on the cliffs on the den road near Puppy Pools and this spot in the centre of the reserve has provided the perfect vantage point from which to appreciate these beautiful birds.
In August 2017, wildlife photographer and guide Steven Freese captured this exquisite footage of the pair feeding their chicks. Seen extensively on Nambiti, this bird species frequents open savanna and comes back to the same cliff area to nest each year. This medium-sized bird of prey is an exciting species to see in any setting, but to witness this exceptional interaction is particularly special and we look forward to watching the chicks mature through our binos with our guests on every game drive in this area.
